Here we have a very finely made model of the ubiquitous 2" Clayton undertype. This is another model built by a long term friend of us here at Steam Workshop who sadly passed away earlier this year. George was an extremely skilled model engineer who’s work was always super crisp and neatly done and I (Simon) remember visiting his workshop a number of times as a kid to be shown the latest stunning project. George must have built this model before I knew him and tucked it up out of the way in his attic for the better part of 50 years or more! The model engineering is superb and very crisply done, and although the model has the odd little bit of surface rust here n there from it's years tucked away, the substance is still clearly built to George's extremely high standard and the model is essentially brand new and un-fired.
Fitted with an injector, a crank shaft pump with bypass valve and a hand pump in the water tank, lubrication is mechanical on the side, and she can come with a full fresh hydraulic boiler test and steam test if you'd like to run the model.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get! We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
